THE GREAT GATSBY PP(69-
OBSERVATIONS + COMMENTS + EVENTS
- The words are so perfect that it comes off as a performance to Nick. He seems fake and like the words he's saying are rehearsed.
- Gatsby is a little weird about the information he has for NIck and this annoys Nick rather than make him interested.
- The city from far away looks great but up close you get to see what goes on behind the curtain
- In chapter 3 we really get to see the food, the set up. A little later you get to see who the people were and their stories.
- The people seem to be famous or rich, but they have tragic back stories and or weird things have happened to them
- The description of the people are racist. The descriptions are "horrifyingly" stereotypical. ( This isn't done by Nick but rather by the writer, Was the author racist?)
- Gatsby describes Baker as someone who would never do something that wasn't alright. This is something that everybody knows, even Gatsby so why would he say this?
- Nick is honest about why he wasn't happy that Gatsby was being suspicous and not up front about what he wanted to tell Nick.
- Gatsby is friends with someone who was behind the buggest scandal in sports history, someone who sits while people around him re getting killed. Who is Gatsby?
- We find out why Gatsby gets a little embarrassed at meeting Tom and just gets up and leaves, we found out why.
- We see why Gatsby lives by the dock on the greenlight and right across DAISY!
- It turns out that Gatsby was at the dock at the end of chapter 1 because of daisy, they dated when they were young.
- Gatsby arranges his whole life around Daisy(sort of like Joe from YOU)

OBSERVATIONS + THOUGHTS + EVENTS
chapter 2
- Nick: feel like an outsider when he's with all the people in the apartment.
- I still can't get over the amount of detail in the book, it will never cease to amaze me.
- The author uses the diorientation in the character connected by his use of grammer, or more lack of.
- The use of the authors word 'violently' comes in handy when he talks aboout the events that occur after.
- The book left me in confusion bc they use different names for the same people and inbetween taking notes and the book things tend to get a little complicated
- Tom shuts Mrttyle up the only way a masogynistic man can, by hitting her.
- Nick is really drunk and falls asleep on the train.
- Chapter 3 - we get our first look at one of Gatsby's Great Parties
- Poeple don't get invited to Gatsbys' parties, they just show up. Nick on the other hand was invited, actually.
- cordial- racy responses, said by Mrs. Baker
- We got to the part where rumors about Gtsby are about to surface

THE GREAT GATSBY 27-43 (CHAPTER 3 )
EVENTS:
We got finally got to see Tom's Mistress
(even back then having an extra secret lady for lack of a better term the man was enveyed and it was seen as something to be proud of)
Nick met Tom's other girl, he had no desire to
Nick and Tom go to the Wilson's apartment
MY OBSERVATIONS:

Nick met Tom's other girl, he had no desire to
Nick and Tom go to the Wilson's apartment
MY OBSERVATIONS:
- Turns out the mistress is MARRIED, her husband seems like the type to do anything for his girl and she uses him and treats him like he's nothing.
- Tom is so full of himself that he thinks he's doing Wilson a favor by cheating with his wife, he even calls him done(the audacity these people have stuns me)
- Nick seems to get cut off by the people we've met so far, have they no manners?
- Mrs.Wilsons husband seems to be really in love with her
- We got more info on Gatsby(its about time!)
ARGUE THIS
Syllogism simplest form of a logical argument
Deductive reasoning: going from a general idea to a specific example
Major Premises:
We evaluate syllogism to see if they're true and evaluate them to see if they're valid.
There is no his truth her truth their truth, there is only THE truth.
Bad logic can quickly turn into an epidemic when everyone looks like
Major premise: so many people are dying due to mass shootings so much so that there is now one everyday due in america.
Minor: why are people so unwilling to change due even after all the evidence as to why they hsould be changed.
Conclusion: why is that ?

THE GREAT GATSBY 07-21
What happened at dinner ?
What's Tom's Problems?
Are these people happy?
Personalities
Nick: non judgmental(phew) has morals(more detail is given in the first few pages refer; easy to confide in)
Toms: Daisy's Husband; full of himself ; cocky
Miss Baker: full of herself; self abosorebed
Daisy: married to Tom; never in the moment, always on to something else, always looking in the future or in the past; self absorbed
( ^These traits seem to be pattern. They all seem to be judgemental as well, *excludes Nick of course)
Some Observations:
VERY IMPORTANT
"Im glad it's a girl. And hope she'll be a fool-that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." -Daisy Buchanan
Involuntarily i glanced seaward- and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away

Some Observations:
- The description in the book about somethn=ing that would seem like a simple breeze and about pretty much everything that is happening. Everything that the author descibes is done in a way that makes us almost believe we were there while it was happening. So many relatable similies and metaphors.
- Page 11: Gatsy is mentioned even though the narrator is curious. The mention of Gatsby is dismissed.
- The Narrators name is Nick, not stated in a direct form but more when people are speaking to him directly and call him by his name. It's never said my name is "Nick" by the narrator.
- Toms having an affair(this is said, not so much of an observation)
- Peremtally: before the action(Used when:Nick got cut off by Daisy before he could reply)
- First Mention and image of Gatsby
