THE GREAT GATSBY 27-43 (CHAPTER 3 )

EVENTS:
We got finally got to see Tom's Mistress 
(even back then having an extra secret lady for lack of a better term the man was enveyed and it was seen as something to be  proud of)
Nick met Tom's other girl, he had no desire to 
Nick and Tom go to the Wilson's apartment 




MY OBSERVATIONS:

• Turns out the mistress is MARRIED, her husband seems like the type to do anything for his girl and she uses him and treats him like he's nothing. 
• Tom is so full of himself that he thinks he's doing Wilson a favor by cheating with his wife, he even calls him done(the audacity these people have stuns me)
• Nick seems to get cut off by the people we've met so far, have they no manners? 
• Mrs.Wilsons husband seems to be really in love with her 
• We got more info on Gatsby(its about time!)

Syllogism simplest form of a logical argument
Deductive reasoning: going from a general idea to a specific example
Major Premises: 
We evaluate syllogism to see if they're true and evaluate them to see if they're valid.
There is no his truth her truth their truth, there is only THE truth.

Bad logic can quickly turn into an epidemic when everyone looks like


Major premise: so many people are dying due to mass shootings so much so that there is now one everyday due in america.

Minor: why are people so unwilling to change due even after all the evidence as to why they hsould be changed.

Conclusion: why is that ?

Personalities
Nick: non judgmental(phew) has morals(more detail is given in the first few pages refer; easy to confide in)
Toms: Daisy's Husband; full of himself ; cocky
Miss Baker: full of herself; self abosorebed
Daisy: married to Tom; never in the moment, always on to something else, always looking in the future or in the past; self absorbed 
 ( ^These traits seem to be pattern.They all seem to be judgemental as well, *excludes Nick of course)
Some Observations:

• The description in the book about somethn=ing that would seem like a simple breeze and about pretty much everything that is happening. Everything that the author descibes is done in a way that makes us almost believe we were there while it was happening. So many relatable similies and metaphors. 
• Page 11: Gatsy is mentioned even though the narrator is curious. The mention of Gatsby is dismissed. 
• The Narrators name is Nick, not stated in a direct form but more when people are speaking to him directly and call him by his name. It's never said my name is "Nick" by the narrator. 
• Toms having an affair(this is said, not so much of an observation)
• Peremtally: before the action(Used when:Nick got cut off by Daisy before he could reply)
• First Mention and image of Gatsby

ON SELF-RELIANCE PART III

• People make changes all the time 
• People can learn and grow over time without changing their values 
• Malice=evil intentions 
• Vanity= looking good 
• Don't act like you're good if you're not good 
• If you act rude and mean in private like at home but do one good thing out of the few you can to make yourself look good then you are a bad person on the inside regardless of what you show on the outside
• Virtues: good things about people, 
• It is easier to be one with yourself and your thoughts rather than followthe herd dismissing your values to fit in

I think Emerson made mny good point, I like the part where he mentions

ON SELF-RELIANCE PART II

There will never be another you, everyone one of you is new 

• Relaxation is not actually relaxing b/c we look back and don't see the things we wanted at the beginnig, we don't reach our goals in time so it isn't reall relaxing 
• Emerson talks about how young people are non chalent, not caring. Teacher cares student doesn't they get offended 
• They don't care what they don't care about and they will make it known
• We have choices and we must make considerations, compromise 
• A room with adults an 
• Children, babies, rude people, just being themselves out-loud, maybe we shouldn't look at it as such a bad thing 
• We are aware of the way that people see us, if we don't express ourselves our voices turn faint and inaudible 
• Born after 9/11, not nearly as much obedience,

SELF RELIANCE 1ST IMPRESSION

You think somethings and you believe what you believe to be right 

   This comes out as selfish 

Belief in who you are, to get other people to: Belief is genuis rather than the thought itself 

These people didn't bind themselves by what was written, Moses, Plato

  Imitation is suicide: be yourself and trying to be someone else: If you succeed in being someone else you lose yourself. 

The only champion, capatain of your doing ship, you thinking ship, is you!

I really like how the author expresses the theme through his writing, he manages to do it in a way where we can find connections to. Something else that I liked about his writing is that he writes in a way that can confuse the reader into misinterpreting the meaning of what he's trying to say. I think that the message throught the essay is pretty clear, especially with the background info given. The way the writer has a way of making the essay sound motivational rather than putting down people who don't have much self-reliance. It's very informational for anyone looking for ways to better themselves, a sort of self care. It seems like a passasge you'd read in a self care handbook.
